On November 21, 2016, the ignorant Daesh conducted a suicide attack targeting the religious ceremony of our people in Baqir-ul-Uloom mosque in Kabul leaving 57 dead and tens of innocent injured.
I met a few families who lost their loved ones in this heart-wrenching tragedy and they gave me a complete list of the victims too.
One of the victims was 11-year-old Meelad.
One of the victims was 11-year-old Meelad, a 6th grader. 27 days back, Meelad’s father (Muhammad Baqir, age 37) was ruthlessly murdered by unknown men on a dark night and till date, the assassins have not been arrested. Every time the family visits the police station, they are deceptively reassured.
31-year-old Amna (Meelad’s mother) is deeply grieved, weak and sick. In tears, she describes her agonizing pain:
“After the death of my husband, my main support was Meelad. He had many hopes, he always told me he wants to grow up to be a policeman and protect his country.”

Amna is living at her poor mother’s home with her two children (Muhammad Mehdi age 9 and Mustafa age 4) in Chahr Qila district in Kabul. The only breadwinner of this aggrieved family of eight is Amna’s 19-year-old brother Sajjad, who is working at a tailor shop and hardly managing a hand to mouth life.
Amna, sobbing hard, continued:
“I have no expectations from this government because they have done nothing for us. If they were concerned, they could find my husband’s killer. This is not a big area where the murderer could escape, they could have hunted him down the same night. Two months have passed and still there are no signs.”
Syed Khudaidad, a woodcutter, is another martyr of this bloody incident.
Syed Khudaidad, a woodcutter, is another martyr of this bloody incident. He is survived by his three children (Abdul Khaliq age 12, Raza and Masooma age 6) who still cannot believe and hope for his return every night.
Khudaidad’s wife (Maryam, age 28) is currently living in a rented home in Shahrak Dawazda Imam and worried on how she would pay for her children’s school expenses, rent etc.
Feeling helpless and alone, she went on in a shaky voice,
“We have no one to help us, and my old father is a scrap metal collector, he needs help too. I am unfortunate now, Syed was our everything.”

Maryam’s mother Fatima, infuriated, shouted from the other room:
“A poor man’s child is always trampled underfoot, had it been Mohaqiq, Khalili or Ashraf Ghani’s son, would they be this negligent? They block all roads when travelling, they can ensure their own safety but not of poor and helpless people. Alas, may they face the same fate!”
